PAPILLION, Nebr. (May 1, 2019) – Alliance Omaha Soccer announced the hiring of Jason Mims as head coach for the newest club in League One. Mims will serve in his new role effective immediately as the club prepares for its inaugural season at Werner Park in Sarpy County.

“Repeatedly, I heard from multiple leaders in the Omaha soccer community that there was only one man for the job of head coach and that was Jason Mims,” said Alliance Omaha Soccer CEO Gary Green. “Coach Mims embodies not just the values of our organization but of this community and his experience at both the collegiate and professional level will be vital as we not only build a roster but also a soccer club.”

Mims is familiar to Omaha soccer fans as he created and built the Division I men’s soccer program at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO). In less than six years, the Mavericks were ranked in the top ten in the country and go on to win three conference championships. Mims coaching career began as an assistant coach for nine seasons with Creighton University’s men’s soccer program. In total during his NCAA coaching and playing career, Mims was part of 12 conference championships, five quarterfinals and two college cups.

Mostly recently Jay has been the assistant coach for Real Salt Lake Academy U19 and U17 teams as well as the Director of scouting for the Academy.

“Omaha is such a special place to me,” said Head Coach Jay Mims. “The opportunity to help create and start-up a professional soccer team here in a community I love is a dream come true.  I am so excited for our entire soccer community to be able to showcase our support, commitment and passion to the entire country and be witness to what I have seen every day.”

Alliance Omaha Soccer will host its inaugural season in 2020 at Werner Park. It is the eleventh team to play in the newly launched League One. USL League One is a United States Soccer Federation-sanctioned professional league in the soccer pyramid. Currently in its inaugural season, USL League One occupies the third tier of the American soccer landscape, below USL Championship and Major League Soccer and above USL League Two.

In addition to hiring Head Coach Jay Mims, the club is currently in the process of engaging the community in the naming of the club and design of its crest, along with establishing its operations and hiring of additional positions. The club will hold local tryouts at a date to be announced. Deposits are currently being accepted for 2020 season tickets.
